A WW2 GERMAN WAFFEN-SS MOUNTAIN TROOPS EDELWEISS PATCH, C. 1940S - A WW2 German Waffen-SS Edelweiss flower patch for Mountain Troops. The design displays the traditional Edelweiss with seven yellow stamen surrounded by silver colored petals. The edelweiss has been associated with the Alps for hundreds of years, with their particular association with mountain troops going back at least to the beginning years of the 1900s. The flower has been immortalized in American culture in the song 'Edelweiss' from the film 'The Sound of Music'. Germany, c. 1940s. Dimensions: L: 2 3/4 in., (7 cm.)
