A GERMAN MILITARY MANEUVER CONTROL SLEEVE BADGE, WWI - Circular field-grey wool sleeve insignia embroidered with crossed signal flags, one white and one red, mounted on a matching wool backing. The reverse retains its original fabric construction. This insignia represents a signal or communications specialty badge worn on the field-grey uniforms of the Imperial German Army during the First World War. The crossed semaphore flags symbolized visual communications and battlefield signaling, an essential function prior to the widespread adoption of radio equipment. Dimensions: D: 3 1/2 in., (9 cm.) Conditions: Good overall condition with light age-related wear, minor fraying at the edges, and scattered loose threads. Colors remain strong and embroidery well preserved.
