A GERMAN WWII GENERAL ASSAULT BADGE (ALLGEMEINES STURMABZEICHEN) - An oval wreath of oak leaves surrounding a spread-winged Wehrmacht eagle clutching a swastika. Constructed in a two-tone finish with a gilt eagle and darkened wreath. The reverse is fitted with a vertical pinback assembly. Unmarked on the reverse. The General Assault Badge was instituted on June 1, 1940, by Generaloberst Walther von Brauchitsch. It was awarded for participation in multiple combat assaults and later expanded to recognize sustained combat service. Numerous manufacturers produced the badge throughout the war in tombak, zinc, and other wartime alloys. Dimensions: 2 1/4 x 1 3/4 in., (5.7 x 4.5 cm.) Conditions: VG.
