A GERMAN MOTHER'S CROSS IN GOLD (GOLDENES EHRENKREUZ DER DEUTSCHEN MUTTER), THIRD REICH - Gilt bronze cross pattée with black enameled swastika at the center, superimposed upon a laurel wreath. The reverse bears the inscription ”Der Deutschen Mutter” (”To the German Mother”) in relief. Suspended from its characteristic blue ribbon and mounted for wear with a pin-back suspension bar. Instituted on December 16, 1938, the Cross of Honour of the German Mother was awarded in bronze, silver, and gold grades to recognize women who bore and raised large families. The gold grade was generally awarded to mothers of eight or more children. Dimensions: 1 3/4 x 1 3/4 in., (4.5 x 4.5 cm.) Conditions: Light wear to the gilt finish with minor oxidation and handling marks. The enamel center remains intact, with no significant loss observed.
