Israeli illustrated metal commemorative stick-pin for the ”Visit aboard the Naval Vessel 'Haifa'”, c - Israeli illustrated metal commemorative stick-pin for the ”Visit aboard the Naval Vessel 'Haifa'”, circa. late 1950's; 20 x 35mm, 1.1g. The Israel Navy Ship (INS) ”Haifa” was formerly the Egyptian Navy vessel ”Ibrahim Al-Awal”, captured by the Israeli Navy during the October 1956 Sinai Campaign. The ship originally belonged to the (British) Royal Navy; built in 1940 and serving under the name HMS ”Mendip”, it also served in the Chinese fleet as the ”Lim Po”. In Israeli service from 1957, it saw action up to and including the 1967 Six Day War. The stamped shield features the city arms of Haifa; the pin is now missing.
