Egypt rarity - 1st issue 1866 10 piastre stamp in blue-slate with 13x13 perforation & upright waterm - Egypt rarity - 1st issue 1866 10 piastre stamp in blue-slate with 13x13 perforation & upright watermark with 10 rays in the sun (SG #7d/w); used, with partial postmark visible - very rare as such (7,600 confirmed used) & price unlisted in SG (£1900 if mint); rare combination. Of note the top horizontal perforation appears jagged and may be the result of either of two things: either that the axis was perforated twice, where a slight misalignment between the pins' descent creates a documented saw-like, jagged edge (ref: Philbrick & Westoby, 1881); or that the stamp was initially unperforated along its top horizontal edge - as documented with the production of this series - and perforated later by V. Penasson of Alexandria, who completed the perforations of incomplete sheets (it's also possible that his perforation work re-perforated an existing perforation, causing the jagged edge).
