Karl Emil Doepler the Elder (1824- - Karl Emil Doepler the Elder (1824-1905), Berlin painter, book illustrator and costume designer, studied under Piloty in Munich, as a costume designer he created 500 drawings for costumes for the first production of the Ring of the Nibelung at the newly founded Bayreuth Festival in 1876.
