Pair of large Imari vases, Japan, 1 - Pair of large Imari vases, Japan, 19th century (Edo/Meiji). The body divided into 2 large, gracefully curved cartouches with naturalistic scenes of cranes on the shore beneath a pine tree, rendered in cobalt blue, iron red, and gold both under and on the glaze. In the background, floral tendrils and additional smaller cartouches; the neck is similarly decorated. Minimal wear, H. 76 cm
