Four historical firefighter helmets - Four historical firefighter helmets, predominantly attributable to the French style of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Description of individual pieces Brass helmets (3 pieces): These are classic French firefighter helmets (Model variants 1885/1895). One helmet features a striking front emblem with the letter “R” on an escutcheon (possibly for a specific community or a “Réserve”). It also has a gold-colored spherical spike (ornament for parades). The other two brass helmets show the typical comb shape, but are simpler in design and show a clear patina as well as smaller dents, which underlines their authentic character. Black helmet (1 piece): A helmet in black lacquer (steel or leather with metal fittings) with a silver-colored spherical spike. The lacquer shows significant age-related flaking, indicating a long period of service or storage. Condition & Features Materials: Brass, steel sheet, partly with leather remnants (chin straps). State of preservation: The helmets are in an unrestored found condition. They show corrosion, paint abrasion, and dents – typical characteristics of historical equipment that was in use. Completeness: The front plates (coats of arms) or inner linings are partially missing, which is common with such collections and offers scope for restorers.
