Antique Copper Engraving Hoyerswerda 1759 – Battle Plan Upper Lusatia Saxony Raspe - Rare copper engraving 1759 – Hoyerswerda Wittichenau Zeiſsig Schwarzkollm Here is the next excellent collector's item from your series of the Raspische Buchhandlung. This sheet documents a highly interesting maneuver in Saxon Upper Lusatia: The Battle of Hoyerswerda on September 25, 1759. In this phase of the Seven Years' War, the Prussian Prince Henry succeeded in a brilliant, covert forced march from Silesia to Saxony to surprise the imperial troops. The present plan shows the preliminary engagement of his vanguard under General Lentulus against an imperial corps (consisting of Hungarian infantry) under General von Vehla, which was completely surprised and overrun near Hoyerswerda. The artistic natural cartouche at the top left provides the historical framework: Title: “PLAN of the Affair near Hoyerswerda between an Imperial Royal Corps of Hungarian Infantry under the Command of General von Vehla and the Royal Prussian General von Lentulus, on the 25th Sept. A. 1759.” The Combatants: The Prussian corps under Major General Rupert Ignaz von Lentulus (General von Lentulus) against the imperial corps of Hungarian units under General Karl Christoph von Vehla (General von Vehla). Details of the “Explication” (top right): Describes the undetected advance of the Prussian army into Saxony, the discovery of Vehla's corps encamped near Hoyerswerda, and the encirclement and defeat of the imperial positions, in which General Vehla was eventually captured. Publisher: Clearly indicated at the bottom right in the plate margin: “Nürnberg in der Raspischen Buchhandlung.” Condition II
