Rare Copper Engraving 1760 – Battle of Wittenberg Imperial Army Prussia Militaria - Copper Engraving Battle of Wittenberg 1760 Elbe Battle Plan Zahna Old Print This is the next fantastic sheet from the Raspe series. It documents a historically highly exciting event from Saxony-Anhalt: The Battle of Wittenberg (1760). While Frederick the Great was tied up in Silesia, the Imperial Army (the allies of the Austrians) advanced into Saxony and besieged the Prussian-occupied fortress of Wittenberg. The Prussian Lieutenant General von Hülsen desperately tried with his troops to force relief and repel the besiegers. The battle ended after heavy artillery fire with a Prussian retreat, whereupon the fortress of Wittenberg had to capitulate shortly thereafter. The large ribbon cartouche on the right side provides you with all the commercially relevant historical facts: Title: „PLAN of the Action near WITTENBERG on October 2, 1760, between the Imperial and Reich Army and the Prussian Corps of Lieutenant General von Hülsen.“ Actors & Commanders: The allied Imperial and Reich Army (including the Russian-Imperial Luzinsky's Corps mentioned in the text) against the Prussian Corps under Lieutenant General Johann Dietrich von Hülsen. Details of the „Explication“: The text describes in detail the Prussian camp from September 30 (A), an „astonishing cannonade“ (H/K), and the evening retreat of the Prussians (L) after they had set fire to the villages of Teuchel and Dobien to cover their withdrawal.
