Umberto Ceccherini Italian Bowl-Back Mandolin, Late 19th Century - Description: An antique bowl back mandolin by Umberto Ceccherini of Naples. The interior label is stamped with a date of 1872 and reads ”Umberto Ceccherini / Fabbrica di Mandolin e Chitarre / Napoli / Made specially for / and to the directions of / Mdlle Nina Lewelin / (Diplomee of Milan) / 19, Monmouth Road, Westbourne Grove, London, W” and is further inscribed with a different address and the year 1902. Materials: Wood, mother of pearl, metal Markings & Inscriptions: Labeled Date: Late 19th century Maker: Umberto Ceccherini Dimensions: 24” x 8” x 5.5”. The case measures 26.25” x 9.5” x 7”. Provenance: From a Devon, Pennsylvania collection. Condition: Tuning pegs possibly replaced. Missing two strings. Small split at bottom center of soundboard. Two missing mother of pearl elements on the fretboard.
