W L Leadbeater (20th Century), Naive Winter Landscape with Father Christmas in Flight, 1984 A large naive folk art painting, executed in oil or acrylic on a stretched rectangular canvas. The scene depicts Father Christmas in a sleigh pulled by reindeer, flying across an atmospheric sky that transitions from pale blue to an ochre tone, featuring a small yellow moon. The landscape below is covered in snow, with a rustic log cabin in the foreground featuring three glowing yellow windows and a smoking chimney. A distant village and mountainous peaks are visible in the background. The artist has used expressive, textured brushwork, particularly in the impasto application of paint for the snowy terrain. The work is signed and dated to the lower right corner in black paint, W L Leadbeater 1984.
