Monogrammed MWZ (British, active early 20th Century), Langharne Castle, July 1908 A watercolour on paper landscape depicting the ruins of Laugharne Castle, Carmarthenshire, Wales, inscribed as Langharne on the mount. The scene features the ivy-covered stone towers of the mediaeval castle behind a cluster of trees. In the foreground, a post-and-wire fence is depicted with two brown fabrics, possibly blankets or animal hides, draped over it to dry. To the right of the composition, the dark hull and a single tall mast of a boat are visible. The work is signed with a monogram in the lower right corner, transcribed as MWZ. The watercolour is set within a gilt-finished mount bearing the printed title and date LANGHARNE CASTLE, JULY, 1908. It is presented in a plain gilt wood frame. The reverse is sealed with a wooden panel and retains a printed trade label for J. R. Harnell & Son, Wholesale Framers, Gilders, Fine Art Agents & Packers, 17, Lamb's Conduit Street, London, W.C., established 1860.
