Bidspirit auction | Henry Charles Fox (British, 1860-1925),

Henry Charles Fox (British, 1860-1925), Wooded Landscape, Oil on Canvas An oil painting on canvas depicting a naturalistic English landscape, featuring a prominent cluster of mature trees with textured, light-coloured bark. The artist has employed loose, confident brushwork with significant impasto in the foreground to create physical depth. The midground shows a field enclosed by a simple wooden fence, leading to a hazy horizon under a bright sky with billowing clouds. Although no signature is visible on the front of the work, a printed biographical label attached to the verso attributes the piece to the British artist Henry Charles Fox (1860-1925). The label notes his residency in London and Kingston on Thames, and his exhibition history at the Royal Academy, Royal Institute, and the Royal Society of British Artists. The work is housed in an ornate, heavily moulded Rococo-style gilded frame featuring elaborate scrollwork and shell motifs at the corners and centres. The reverse of the wooden stretcher bears a handwritten notation of 20x16. Canvas: 16 x 20 inches Overall Frame: 21 x 25.5 inches.
