A Collection of 20th-Century British and European Ceramics Including Biltons Celtic Rose Tableware, Portmeirion, and Buchan Portobello A collection of six assorted 20th-century British and European ceramic items comprising tableware and decorative wall tiles. The group includes a Portmeirion Pottery earthenware cylindrical vessel, transfer-printed with botanical illustrations from the Botanic Garden range featuring yellow tormentil flowers and various butterflies. The base is marked with a green oval Portmeirion Pottery Stoke on Trent stamp. A Buchan Portobello stoneware mug of slightly tapered form with a strap handle, hand-painted with a Scottish thistle motif in purple and green on a pale blue-grey ground. The base bears the Buchan Portobello Scotland thistle mark, numbered 187 10 and marked Made in Scotland. A pair of Biltons ironstone side plates decorated in the Celtic Rose pattern, featuring dark brown concentric geometric scrollwork on a speckled cream ground. The reverse of each carries the Biltons tableware underglaze detergent proof backstamp. The collection is completed by two relief-molded decorative tiles. One is a Royal Sphinx Maastricht earthenware tile featuring a circular mandala-style pattern under a translucent lime-green glaze, with the reverse marked Hemiksem and Made in Belgium. The second is an H & R Johnson Ltd tile decorated with a Celtic-style cross and knotwork design under a translucent red and charcoal-grey glaze, with the maker's name impressed to the reverse.
