An Assortment of Antique Cast Iron Domestic Items including a Saint Bernard Dog Nutcracker and Sad Irons This assortment comprises cast iron domestic metalware including a mechanical Saint Bernard dog nutcracker and a group of graduated sad irons. The nutcracker features a tail-lever mechanism whereby depressing the tail moves the lower jaw downwards against the upper jaw to crack a nut. The crushing surfaces within the mouth are cast with deep horizontal ridges for grip. The sad irons are cast with integral arched handles that are hollowed at the centre. The largest iron in the group displays a raised numeral 8 within a circle and a five-pointed star motif on the top plate. Other irons in the collection feature raised decorative geometric patterns and obscured markings. Dog nutcracker length: approximately 25cm Smallest iron length: approximately 10cm.
