His gloomy scenes of his hometown, Newark, are highly sought after. His inspiration was views from his backyard. Gasser's mentor was a fellow Newark resident and well know artist, John R. Grabach. In this watercolor Gasser has inserted a Pennsylvania Railroad car at the forefront of the painting where railroad tracks traverse along the rear of a row of snow capped houses.
