A COLLECTION OF 20TH CENTURY AMERICAN CASED SERVICE MEDALS comprising the United States Defence Superior Service Medal (DSSM), which was established on February 6, 1976, by President Gerald R. Ford. The design features a medium-blue pentagon representing the five services, with an American bald eagle superimposed on it. The reverse of the medal is inscribed with ”FROM THE SECRETARY OF DEFENSE TO ... FOR SUPERIOR SERVICE”. A Navy Cross medal, which is the second-highest military award for valor in the United States It is presented to members of the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard for extraordinary heroism during combat, the Navy Cross was established in 1919. A US Naval Reserve Medal, which was an active award from 1938 to 1958. The medal was created by order of the Secretary of the Navy, James Paulding, and first issued on September 12, 1938. It was awarded for faithful service in the Naval Reserve. The medal is no longer an active award, having been discontinued in 1958. A Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal (MOVSM) of the United States Armed Forces. It was established by Executive Order 12830 on January 9, 1993.
