A LATE 19TH CENTURY PORTRAIT OIL ON CANVAS depicting Abdülaziz, the 32nd Sultan of the Ottoman Empire who reigned from 1861 - 1876. He was the first Ottoman Sultan to visit Western Europe, including a 1867 visit to Britain, where he was honoured by Queen Victoria. He is most recognised for modernising the Ottoman Navy, which became the third-largest in the world by 1875, in a gilt-moulded frame. (48.5cm high and 38cm wide)
