FUAD I OF EGYPT: (1868-1936) Sultan of Egypt 1917-22, later King of Egypt 1922-36. Also Sovereign of Sudan, Nubia and Darfur. A good L.S., `Fouad´, three pages, 8vo, Paris, 7th February 1913, on the Hotel Continental of Paris printed stationery, to Ernesto Pacelli, in Italian. Fuad refers to the Balkan conflict `..durante questa fase risolutiva del conflitto balkanico..´, and to the campaign he has been leading over the last nine months in Europe `La campagna che da nove mesi vado conduciendo in Europa..´, both resolved successfully. Fuad further refers to the visit of the Emperor of Russia and for this reason requests a credit of one hundred thousand francs to be opened at the Parisian office `..a partire per Londra e in previssione di una visita immediata a S.M, l´Imperatore di Russia, devo per ogni evento trovarmi convenientemente preparato e provvisto di fondi..´. Fuad refers to the important historical time of his homeland saying `..in un momento acuto e forse storico della mia esistenza,´ Matted in black, beneath a 8 X 8 photograph, the image showing Fuad in a head and shoulders pose, to an overall of 12 x 16 (30cm x 40cm), easily removable. Accompanied by the original envelope addressed to Pacelli, postmarked, bearing to the verso a red wax seal in very fine condition. Together with an A.L.S., by the vice-secretary of State of the Foreign Affairs Ministry, to Pacelli, reporting that there are no political issues to grant the loan requested by Fuad I. VG, 2 Ernesto Pacelli (?-1925) Founder and President of the Bank of Rome. Financial adviser to Popes Leo XIII, Pius X and Benedict XV.
