Anstey announces 'As I am aware of your partiality to my unworthy productions, I take the liberty of sending you a little sonnet which I wrote the other day upon a very interesting subject, and which you will find on the other side of this half sheet of paper' and further remarks 'This melancholy & sentimental species of writing is, I find, very much come into fashion of late, and I have been induced to attempt it from a desire of doing poetical justice to the character of an old friend and acquaintance….'
