SCOTT WALTER: (1771-1832) Scottish historical novelist, poet, playwright & historian. A.L.S., Walter Scott, one page, 4to, Abbotsford, 1st September n.y. (1828), to Hector MacDonald Buchanan ('My dear Hector'). Scott states that he had deferred from answering his correspondent's letter 'because I had some little hope we might realize the agreeable plan', although continues 'But Walter's leave is so short that he must return to Ireland almost immediately so all he has been able to do is to take a peep at his property in Fife…..For myself I have a great deal to do and little hour to do it in', adding that they will not therefore meet 'unless you could come this way which would give me the most sincere pleasure. I work till eve every day regularly and am then at leisure to see my friends and amuse myself', and explaining that he wished to work longer but found that he suffered from cramp if he neglected regular exercise. With integral address leaf bearing a small black wax seal (small area of paper loss where originally broken). Some extremely light, very minor age wear, VG
