ALFONSO V of ARAGON: (1396-1458) Known as "The Magnanimous". King of Aragon and King of Sicily from 1416, and King of Naples from 1442. Alfonso V was one of the most prominent political figures of the early Renaissance. Very rare L.S., `Rex Alfonsus´, one page, oblong 4to, Valencia, 20<sup>th</sup> December 1425, in Latin. The letter states to the heading "Alfonso, by the grace of God, King of Aragon, Sicily, Valencia, Majorca, Sardinia and Corsica, Duke of Athens and Neopatria, Count of Roussillon…" Alfonso V sends this letter to Juan Gomez, canon of Valencia, refers to the Roman curia, and sends instructions to pay 600 solidi to the King´s confessor Juan de Casanova, stating in part `…diletto consiliamo et confessori nostro fratello Johani de Casanova…´ ("…our dear brother, counselor and confessor Johan de Casanova..") With a large circular paper seal affixed to the verso. Overall age wear with uneven edges, worm holes to the right edge, not affecting the text or signature, and a small hole to the centre, only affecting one letter of a word. F to G
