DE GAULLE CHARLES: (1890-1970) French General and Statesman who led the Free French Forces during World War II. President of the French Republic 1959-69. A.L.S., C de Gaulle, two pages, 8vo, n.p. [Paris], 17th November 1952, on his personal printed stationery with his printed heading “Le General De Gaulle”, to Monsieur Yves Neuville, in French. De Gaulle states in part `L´attention que vous avez eue de m´adresser l´ouvrage de votre pere “Heurs et malheurs des consuls de France a Jérusalem” m´a beaucoup touché. J´y ai pris un vif intéret et je le garderai comme le témoignage de l´oeuvre française séculaire a laquelle René Neuville s´est longtemps consacré et qu´il a si bien servie jusqu´au jour meme de sa mort´ (“The attention that you have had sending me your father´s work “Fortunes and misfortunes of the consuls of France in Jerusalem” touched me a lot. I took a keen interest in it and I will keep it as the testimony of the secular French work to which René Neuville devoted himself for a long time and which he served so well until the last day of his death”) Accompanied by the original envelope, postmarked and stamped, addressed in De Gaulle´s hand.
