John C. Spencer (1788-1855) American Politician, Lawyer & Judge. United States Secretary of War 1841-43 and of the Treasury 1843-44.

The Choctaw were a prominent Indian tribe in southern Mississippi, of Muskogee stock. Allies of the French and enemies of the British, the tribe drifted west in the 18th century towards what is now Oklahoma, where they remained self-governing and semi-civilised until their absorption into American citizenship in 1906.
