WELLES ORSON: (1915-1985) American actor & film director, Academy Award winner. D.S., Orson Welles, two pages, 4to, n.p. (New York?), 19th September 1946. The typed document takes the form of a letter to Welles from Adrian Samish, Vice President of the American Broadcasting Company Inc., dated 29th July 1946, formally confirming a conversation in which Welles was advised that Lear Inc. will no longer be sponsoring his radio programme, although also confirming that Welles will continue to broadcast his present series, and laying out six numbered clauses, advising that Welles's broadcasts will be scheduled for thirteen weeks commencing on 14th July 1946 and that he will be paid $50 per broadcast ('I want to assure you here that I appreciate very much your going along with us on this and promise you that every effort will be made to secure a sponsor promptly') and also stating that the programme 'may originate, at your option, in our Hollywood, Chicago, New York, Washington, or San Francisco studios at no cost to you at all'. Signed by Welles at the conclusion, thereby agreeing to and accepting the conditions, and countersigned by a representative of the William Morris Agency Inc.
