ICONIC PIANISTS OF THE 20th CENTURY:
ICONIC PIANISTS OF THE 20th CENTURY: A very fine selection of three signed programs, by three of the main Pianists of the 20th century, comprising BACKHAUS WILHELM (1884-1969) German Pianist. Signed musical printed program, 20 pages, Rome, 24th/25th March 1942, in Italian. Signed `Wilhelm Backhaus´ in bold black ink to a clear area to the front page. The program corresponds to his 5th and 6th day concert performance of the 32 piano sonatas by Beethoven; BENEDETTI MICHELANGELI ARTURO (1920-1995) Italian Pianist. According to The New York Times he was perhaps the most reclusive, enigmatic and obsessive among the world´s legendary pianists. Signed and inscribed 5.5 x 9 printed program, three pages, Verona, 16th January 1940, in Italian. Signed and inscribed in bold black ink at the base of the second page, beneath the works performed, stating `Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli - in ricordo del concerto di Verona, 1940´. The works included Scarlatti, Brahms, Ravel, Chopin, etc…, and ARRAU CLAUDIO (1903-1991) Chilean Pianist. Regarded as one of the greatest of the last century. Signed 6.5 x 9.5 printed program, four pages, Berlin, 9th October 1973, in German. Signed in bold blue ink to the program front page, also signed in red ink by the conductor Gary Bertini. Arrau performed on that occasion the Concerto for Piano and Orchestra nº 1 of Brahms. G, 3
