HAMMERSTEIN II OSCAR: (1895-1960) American lyricist and librettist of Broadway Musicals, famous for his collaborations with composer Richard Rodgers. A brief T.L.S., Oscar, one page, 4to, St, George Street, London, 8th June 1950, to W. J. MacQueen-Pope (´Dear Macqueen´), on the printed stationery of Williamson Music Limited. Hammerstein II writes, in full, ´Thank you very much for your opening night wire and your good wishes´. VG

Rodgers and Hammerstein II´s second musical, Carousel, had premiered in Great Britain at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, in London´s West End on 7th June 1950.
