BILLAUD-VARENNE & BARERE: Jacques Nicolas Billaud-Varenne (1756-1819) French Revolutionary, often considered a key architect of the period known as The Reign of Terror. Nicknamed ''Le Tigre'' (''The Tiger''). Billaud-Varenne was a member of the Committee of Public Safety, later sentenced to deportation to French Guiana after is involvement in the 12th Germinal insurrection (1st April 1795). Bertrand Barere (1755-1814) French Politician, Freemason & Journalist, one of the most prominent members of the National Convention during the French Revolution. A good D.S., `Billaud-Varenne´, and `B. Barere´, one page, folio, Paris, 17th October 1793, in French. Both revolutionaries, in their capacities as representatives of the people at the Committee of Public Safety, forward the partially printed document to all representatives in mission to the different French Departments stating what has been approved by decree, saying in part `..to complete the full purge of all the authorities established in each department, and all civil servants, having to report every eight days about the progress of their missions before being called to return back
