Rosebery states that he had received his correspondent´s letter ´but had great difficulty in making it out as it was written in faint pencil´, remarking ´Pencil script is of no use to me, as I am nearly blind´, and further adding ´I should like very much to see you and Henry when convenient; but I cannot go up to London as long as my little granddaughter is here, who rules me entirely´.
