BENOIS ALEXANDRE: (1870-1960) - BENOIS ALEXANDRE: (1870-1960) Alexander Nikolaevich Benois. Russian Painter, Decorator and Scenographer. Best known for his close friendship and professional relationship with Serge Diaghilev. Scene Director of the Mariinsky Theatre since 1903, Benois would later create the scene decors for Chopin´s Les Sylphides (1908), Adam´s Giselle (1910) or Stravinsky´s Petrouchka (1911) among others. A long time collaborator of Diaghilev all over Europe. In 1926 he leaves the Soviet Russia and establishes in Paris, collaborating from then on with the Scala of Milan, Covent Garden, French Opera, etc... Scarce signature ` Nicola Benois´ to an oblong 8vo page, 6.5 x 4.5, removed from an autograph album. Also signed by Tatyana Pavlova (1890-1975) Russian theatre Director and stage film Actress. Both are signed in bold black fountain pen ink. VG
