DIAGHILEV SERGEI: (1872-1929) Message to Boris Kochno with sketch - DIAGHILEV SERGEI: (1872-1929) Russian ballet Impresario, founder of the Ballets Russes. A very rare A.N.S. by Diaghilev, adding a sketch of a cat, one page, oblong 4to, brown paper, Paris, n.d., to his lover Boris Kochno, to the verso of a printed stationery page of the Hotel Continental, 3 rue Castiglione, Paris, in Cyrillic. Diaghilev leaves a short note to Kochno at the hotel, indicating to him where he is, saying ` We are at Missia´s home´ adding to the lower border a funny sketch of a cat. A sual joke between themselves. Very small overall minor age wear, otherwise G Boris Kochno (1904-1990) Russian Poet, Dancer and Librettist who became Diaghilev’s secretary in 1920, and was eventually his main collaborator. The two men were also lovers for a brief period. Misia Sert, also known as Madame Edwards, was according to Diaghilev´s own words ”his greatest and best friend”. Madame Sert and the Princess of Polignac, whom Diaghilev met at the same time, have been considered to some extent to have been his muses, being the inspiration of his creative activity. Most of the ballets were dedicated to the Princess and the preliminary rehearsals often took place at her house, while ideas for new ballets were first discussed with Misia Sert who was devoted to him.
