WYCHERLY MARGARET: (1881-1956) - WYCHERLY MARGARET: (1881-1956) English character actress, an Academy Award nominee for Best Supporting Actress in 1941 for her performance as Mama Mary York in Sergeant York . An excellent and extremely rare vintage signed sepia 10.5 x 13.5 photograph of the actress in a head and shoulders pose wearing a chic hat and gently resting her chin on one raised hand. Photograph by Ruth Harriet Louise for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and bearing her blindstamp to the lower edge and credit stamp to the verso. Signed by Wycherly in dark fountain pen ink to a light area at the base of the image, ´They tell me Nancy (?) wants this! and signed, Margaret Wycherly´ . Autographs of Wycherly are extremely rare in any form, and signed photographs of this size and quality are excessively uncommon, and highly desirable. Some very light, extremely minor silvering, otherwise VG Ruth Harriet Louise (1903-1940) American photographer. The first female photographer active in Hollywood, Louise ran Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer´s portrait studio from 1925-30.
