Rider Haggard , three pages, 8vo, Ditchingham House, Norfolk, 12th September 1923, to Howard Carter, on Haggard´s printed bifolium stationery featuring a hieroglyphic cartouche. The author states that Lady Carnarvon had kindly sent an invitation to Carter´s lecture, but unfortunately he won´t be able to attend as he will not be in London, further writing ´I have been wondering how I could get in touch with you and now send this note to her care to ask whether, by any chance, you would care to spend a week-end quietly here before you return to Egypt´ and adding ´I need hardly say that my wife & I would be very pleased if by chance you can come anytime before the middle of October, should you not be too full of engagements, and I should very much enjoy seeing you again´ . In a postscript Haggard remarks that he hopes to come to Egypt for a trip next January. VG
