The Empress writes to her Privy Counselor, reinforcing her support to Livland people, and stating ` My dear Privy Councillor Vietinghoff! Your letter I received from Riga on 1st August and the good news it contained gave me great pleasure. I will at all times do all justice to the unwavering devotion to my loyal province of Livland, and they are all the more welcome to me at the present time, when my restless neighbour has attacked me with war. You know my sentiments, and therefore know best how much the Livlanders are devoted to me and how they can always be assured of my special favor and grace, as well as my most emphatic protection...´ With lose address leaf, stating that the letter is sent by Empress Catharina, from Saint Petersburg. Overall age wear and creasing with repair to the verso to the central fold and edges very slightly trimmed. F to G Livonia was known in earlier records as Livland. This historical region on the eastern shores of the Baltic Sea is named after the Livonians, who lived on the shores of what is in present-day Latvia.
