PARKER CHARLIE: (1920-1955) - PARKER CHARLIE: (1920-1955) American jazz saxophonist, bandleader and composer. A rare autograph D.S., Charlie Parker , one page, oblong 12mo, n.p. (Detroit), 9th October 1960. On a page neatly removed from a small notebook Parker pens a receipt, in full, ´Received Five ($5.00) dollars (Payment to officer in Forest Ballroom in Detroit)´ and signs his name immediately beneath. Autographs of Parker are rare in any form, not least as a result of his untimely death at the young age of 34. Three file holes and a series of smaller holes to the left edge, not affecting the text or the signature. VG The present receipt dates from the time of Parker’s first tour with a strings section in support of his two Charlie Parker with Strings albums. The 11-piece band played a three-day engagement at the Forest Ballroom in Detroit from 6th to 8th October 1950, indicating that the document must have been written and signed in the early hours of 9th October after the final Detroit performance and before the outfit moved on to Philadelphia to open at the Club Harlem that night.
