FITZHERBERT MARIA: (1756-1837) - FITZHERBERT MARIA: (1756-1837) British high society figure, the clandestine wife of George, Prince of Wales (later King George IV). A.L.S., M Fitzherbert , one page, 8vo, n.p., n.d., to Lady Beauchamp. Fitzherbert states that she is sorry to again be sending her excuses for not having been able to meet her correspondent the previous evening, which she had fully intended doing, explaining that she was ´prevented in consequence of attending my niece Mrs. Firmingham (?) who is just confined & I have not been able to leave her as I have been in much anxiety about her ´, although concluding by adding that she is now a little better. With integral address leaf (heavy staining and traces of former mounting affecting the address panel) bearing a red wax seal and with an area of paper loss to one corner, caused by the original breaking of the seal. Some light age wear, about VG Catherine Denn (d.1844) Countess Beauchamp, wife of William Lygon (1747-1816) 1st Earl of Beauchamp, British politician.
