BELL JOHN: (1811-1895) - BELL JOHN: (1811-1895) British sculptor. A.L.S., John Bell , four pages, 8vo, Kensington, London, 27th November 1867, to Matthew Henry Marsh. Bell informs his correspondent that ´There are 2 public memorials for whoch I understand subscriptions are being raised in Australia. One to Captain Cook & the other to the late Governor Sir John Young ´ and continues ´May I (as they say) solicit your vote & interest as respects the same if you think me worthy & if the opportunity for such a service comes across your path?´ , also adding that he would be glad if Marsh were to visit ´to see the large group ”America” I am doing for the Prince Consort Memorial´ and further remarking ´I do not know Mr. Hamilton so well as I do you. Perhaps you would kindly mention the subject of the above 2 memorials to him for me?´ VG Matthew Henry Marsh (1810-1881) English politician who served as Member of Parliament for Salisbury in Great Britain and was also elected to the New South Wales Legislative Council in Australia, where he was also a Queensland pioneer pastoralist.
