BELL ALEXANDER GRAHAM: (1847-1922) - BELL ALEXANDER GRAHAM: (1847-1922) Scottish scientist & inventor, credited with inventing the first practical telephone. A.L.S., Alexander Graham Bell , one page, oblong 8vo, Jacksonville, Illinois, 26th February 1885, to Miss. Powers. Bell states that he has ´written a few lines in ”line-writing” for Miss. Holmes (?)´ and continues to remark ´Should she be unable to read what I have written, tell her to send me a copy of it and I will translate´ , further adding ´It has given me great pleasure to visit the Institution and it has given me still greater pleasure to meet you.....May you have every happiness in the future´ .
