GEORGE II: (1683-1760) & PITT THE ELDER: (1708-1778) - GEORGE II: (1683-1760) King of Great Britain and Ireland 1727-60. A good D.S., George R , as King, at the head, one page (vellum), oblong folio, Court at Kensington, 27th August 1759. The partially printed document, completed in manuscript, is a military commission appointing John Webster to be a Lieutenant in the Sixth (or Inniskilling) Regiment of Dragoons commanded by Lieutenant General James Cholmondeley. Countersigned at the foot by William Pitt (1708-1778) The Elder. 1st Earl of Chatham. British Prime Minister 1766-68 and, at the time of the present document, Secretary of State for the Southern Department (1756-57, 1757-61). With blind embossed paper seal affixed. Some light age wear to the folds, otherwise VG James Cholmondeley (1708-1775) British General and politician who fought at the Battle of Fontenoy (1745) and during the Jacobite rising of 1745 commanded a brigade at the Battle of Falkirk Muir, January 1746.
