DISRAELI BENJAMIN: (1804-1881) - DISRAELI BENJAMIN: (1804-1881) British Prime Minister 1868, 1874-80. A.L.S., B Disraeli , three pages, 8vo, Whitehall, 7th May 1868, to Reverend James Atlay, on the printed stationery of 10 Downing Street. Disraeli commences his letter stating ´I propose, with your permission, to recommend Her Majesty to exercise Her Majesty´s prerogative & prefer you to the vacant see of Hereford´ and continues to remark ´And I have reason to believe, that Her Majesty would not disapprove of a recommendation, wh:, on my part, is made for no other object, than the greater good´ . One file hole to the upper left corner, some light age wear, and some traces of former mounting to the verso of the final page. About VG James Atlay (1817-1894) English churchman who served as Bishop of Hereford from 1868-94.
