MONTGOMERY B. L.: (1887-1976) - MONTGOMERY B. L.: (1887-1976) British Field Marshal of World War II. A good vintage signed 10 x 13.5 photograph (image 9.5 x 7) by Montgomery, depciting him seated in a full-length pose, in uniform, at the centre of the front row of various other military personnel, with three further rows standing behind, each of them members of XXX Corps, a printed caption to the photographer´s mount indicating that the photograph was captured at the headquarters of the British Liberation Army on the occasion of the visit of the Commander-in-Chief, Field-Marshal Sir Bernard L. Montgomery on 1st December 1944. Signed ( ´B. L. Montgomery, Field-Marshal´ ) by Montgomery in bold, dark fountain pen ink to a light area at the base of the image, and further signed by Brian Horrocks (1895-1985) British Lieutenant-General of World War II, commander of the XXX Corps in Operation Market Garden, and George Clifford Webb (1905-1945) British Brigadier with the Royal Tank Regiment, Deputy Adjutant and Quartermaster-General with XXX Corps (Northwestern Europe) 1944-45, who was killed in action. Both Horrocks and Webb have signed in fountain pen inks to light areas at the base of the image, each adding their ranks beneath their signatures. Contained within the original photographer´s presentation folder. Some very light, extremely minor age wear, VG The British Army´s XXX Corps was formed in the Western Desert in September 1941. It provided extensive service in the North African Campaign and many of its units were in action at the Second Battle of El Alamein in late 1942. XXX Corps also participated in the Allied Invasion of Normandy in June 1944, as well as Operation Market Garden in September 1944.
