HALEVY FROMENTAL: (1799-1862) - HALEVY FROMENTAL: (1799-1862) French composer. A very fine letter with good association, A.L.S., ` F Halevy ´, one page, 8vo, n.p. [Paris], Friday 11th June, n.y., to Alfred de Musset, in French. Halevy regrets having to leave for a short trip and postpone his meeting with Musset, who he calls `Mon cher Poète´ (” My dear Poet”), and suggests a further date for a lunch with him, stating `Mon cher Poète, Une circonstance imprévue et tout à fait indépendante de ma volonté m´oblige à faire aujourd´hui un petit voyage. Il me fait donc renoncer au plaisir de vous recevoir. Je n´ai pas besoin de vous dire tous mes regrets. Voulez-vous être assez bon pour me dédommager en venant dîner avec nous mardi prochain?... Mon père m´a dit qu´il n´avait pas eu le plaisir de vous voir mardi dernier comme cela était convenu.’ (Translation: ” My dear Poet, An unforeseen circumstance, completely beyond my control, obliges me to make a short trip today. It therefore forces me to renounce the pleasure of receiving you. I have no need to tell you all my regrets. Will you be kind enough to compensate me by coming to dine with us next Tuesday?... My father told me that he did not have the pleasure of seeing you last Tuesday as agreed”) Further and before concluding Halevy asks Musset about some verses he asked for, saying ` M´avez-vous cependant fait quelques vers? J´essaierai de ne pas trop les gâter, écrivez-moi deux lignes...´ (Translation: ” Have you written me some verses yet? I'll try not to spoil them too much, write me a couple of lines...”) With blank integral leaf. Accompanied by the original envelope addressed to ”Monsieur Alfred de Musset - Membre de l´Académie française”, bearing to the verso a red wax seal. G
