G to VG Louis Orfila, Spanish professor at the Parisian faculty of medicine. He was the nephew of Mathieu Orfila (1787-1853) Spanish Chemist and a renowned pioneer in the science of toxicology. President of the French Academy of medicine, he was best known for testifying as an expert in criminal poisoning cases. Orfila served as Royal Physician to King of France Louis XVIII. Orfila became famous for two reasons: the musical evenings he organized in his salon and his participation in poisoning trials. The Orfila family salon was a meeting place for powerful figures, doctors, lawyers, and young artists intending to make a career in the competitive Parisian musical world.
