MASSENET JULES: (1842-1912) - MASSENET JULES: (1842-1912) French composer of the Romantic era. A fine vintage signed and inscribed 8.75 x 10.5 engraved portrait of Massenet, the image depicting the composer in a head and shoulders pose. Signed in fountain pen ink to a clear area immediately beneath the image by Massenet, with a warm inscription in French, ´À la charmante et eminente pianiste Jane Franquin, en chere admiration, Massenet ´, and dated Paris, October 1911 in his hand. Laid down to thick backing card and with a thin strip of dicoloration to each of the edges, evidently the result of previous framing, G Jane Franquin was a pianist and music teacher, the daughter of Merri Franquin (1848-1934) French trumpeter, cornetist and flugelhornist who was professor of trumpet at the Conservatoire de Paris from 1894-1925.
