Donizetti informs his correspondent about the rehearsals of one of his operas, stating `J´ai l´honneur de vous prévenir que ma r´épétition générale est fixée à mercredi 11 du mois à midi, et que les mêmes billets seront valables. Je compte sur la faveur de votre présence, et vous Monsieur, sur ma reconnaissance.´ (Translation: ” I have the honour to inform you that my dress rehearsal is scheduled for Wednesday, the 11th of the month, at noon, and that the same tickets will be valid. I count on the favour of your presence, and you, Sir, on my gratitude.”) With blank integral leaf. Neatly laid down. Small overall minor creasing, otherwise G. Mathieu Orfila (1787-1853) Spanish Chemist and a renowned pioneer in the science of toxicology. President of the French Academy of medicine, he was best known for testifying as an expert in criminal poisoning cases. Orfila served as Royal Physician to King of France Louis XVIII. Orfila became famous for two reasons: the musical evenings he organized in his salon and his participation in poisoning trials. The Orfila family salon was a meeting place for powerful figures, doctors, lawyers, and young artists intending to make a career in the competitive Parisian musical world. Orfila was a member of musical societies, organized concerts, and sometimes sang excerpts from the most famous operas of the time.
