The letter bears a Veynen blind embossed seal to the upper left corner. Bellini states ` Sono dolentissimo per non potere accettare il suo gentile invito, essendo di gia impegrato tanto per prango que per la sera. Mi riserbo a venirla a ringraziare di persona; frattanto preposi i miei rispetti alla sua signora, ed ella mi creda´ (Translation: ” I am very sorry that I cannot accept your kind invitation, as I am already busy with both lunch and the evening. President of the French Academy of medicine, he was best known for testifying as an expert in criminal poisoning cases. Orfila served as Royal Physician to King of France Louis XVIII. Orfila became famous for two reasons: the musical evenings he organized in his salon and his participation in poisoning trials. The Orfila family salon was a meeting place for powerful figures, doctors, lawyers, and young artists intending to make a career in the competitive Parisian musical world. Orfila was a member of musical societies, organized concerts, and sometimes sang excerpts from the most famous operas of the time.
