Giordano tries to explain to his correspondent how much he regrets having to postpone their meeting, stating ` Sono sinceramente addolorado di doverti dire, ancora una volta, che mi é impossibile poter accettare il suo cortese invito. Circostanze di famiglia, sorte in questi giorni, non mi permettono di poter disporre di me stesso in qualsiasi modo. Ti prego di prestar fede a quanto ti dico e non supporre che vi siano altre ragioni. Spero, lo spero con tutto il cuore, di poterti mostrare in avvenire tutto il grande affetto e la stima che ho per te...´ (Translation: ” I am sincerely sorry to have to tell you, once again, that it is impossible for me to accept your kind invitation.
