A very fine A.L.S., Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy , a clean and attractive signature, one page, 4to, Frankfurt, 26th May 1845, to Ricordi, in French. Mendelssohn acknowledges the sale of some of his works to the Italian family musical editors Ricordi, stating ` Je soussigné déclare avoir vendu la propriété de mon oeuvre 67 (Cahier de Six Romances sans PAroles pour Piano seul) pour l´Italie à Mr. J. Ricordi de Milan.´ (Translation: ” I, the undersigned, declare that I have sold the ownership of my work 67 (Notebo ok of Six Romances without words for Piano only) for Italy to Mr. G. Ricordi of Milan.”) The letter bears to the upper part two printed Italian tax stamps. VG Songs without words, Opus 67, (”Lieder ohne Worte”) are a series of well-known and often performed short lyrical piano pieces by Mendelssohn, written between 1829 and 1845.
